How does Frugal iD help me protect my identity?
Frugal iD is a complete ID Theft Protection service offered to you for free. Frugal iD includes: Automated ID Monitoring & Surveillance, ID Fraud Loss Insurance, Lost Wallet Service and a Fully Managed Restoration Service getting you back to pre-theft status.
Will Frugal iD cover my family too?
Yes! When you sign up for Frugal iD you automatically cover yourself, your spouse or qualified domestic partner, your children AND your parents too. Every family member under your roof!
How is such a great service provided free of charge?
Frugal iD brings you all this protection 100% free through its ad-supported software. The software allows you to access your ID Command Center. As long as you have the Frugal iD software installed on your computer, and an active account with us, you will be protected.
What do I need to do to start monitoring my Identity?
First step is to sign up! Signing up for Frugal iD is simple and secure. You enroll with your name, email, address and telephone number and we begin the process. You are not required to provide a Social Security Number. Any time you release your Social Security Number there is a risk of it being abused. Unlike Frugal iD, credit monitoring firms require this type of information and thus create a risk where not necessary. Credit bureaus that offer credit monitoring services profit by reselling the sensitive personal information they gather from consumers for use in credit marketing campaigns. Once this sensitive information has been sold, the bureaus can't guarantee its security.
What is "Automated ID Monitoring & Surveillance"?
The Automated Internet Monitoring and Surveillance service scours the Internet looking for your name, home address, credit card numbers, bank accounts, account login information and many other pieces of personally identifiable information to determine if your data has been found to be compromised on the Internet.
What expenses are covered if my identity is stolen?
Frugal iD provides you with $25,000 of loss insurance with an Identity Fraud Loss and Expense Reimbursement Master Policy from AIG Insurance. Covered expenses include: lost wages as a result of time taken off from work to deal with the fraud, notary and certified mail charges for completing and delivering fraud affidavits, fees to re-apply for loans that were denied as a result of erroneous credit information due to the identity theft, long distance telephone charges for calling merchants, law enforcement agencies or credit grantors to discuss an actual identity theft, selected attorney fees, and costs for daycare and eldercare coverage, if that coverage is necessary for an Insured Person to attend meetings or otherwise have the ability to restore financial health and credit history as a result of identity theft.
Why should I use the Lost Wallet Service?
The Lost Wallet Service is a unique, one-of-a-kind service that allows you to store certain information about the contents of your purse and wallet securely online. Without having to store full financial or personal information, the Lost Wallet Service will become a critical piece of your identity theft protection service in the event your wallet or purse is lost or stolen.
How do I get my identity back if it's stolen?
If your identity is ever assumed by a criminal, we will aid in the recovery process in two ways. We can either completely do it for you or assist you in the resolution process. If you choose to have us assume and organize the recovery process on your behalf, we can further minimize the time and hassle involved.
If you simply want assistance, we provide a step-by-step instruction manual detailing the resolution process, including guidance for avoiding future complications, and a toll-free victim assistance number for access to specialists trained in identity theft recovery. This service allows you to correct identity theft problems yourself, without the assistance or expense of an attorney.
Rapid response is the best defense against identity theft. If you believe a breach or theft of your personal information has occurred, moving quickly and in an organized way is the best method to stop identity thieves before they use your information. A speedy response is most important in cases where a data breach or loss involves your Social Security number, which can be used to open new lines of credit.
I need help, my identity is in danger! What do I do?
In order to be able to use the services provided by Frugal iD you must have registered prior to the theft. This way we are able to verify your identity and help you mitigate the process of restoring your identity to pre-theft status.
With your active account, log in to the command center and choose which type of theft report you would like to create. There are three different types to choose from. 1) Open an identity theft report. 2) Open an identity insurance claim. 3) Create a Lost Wallet Record. At every step of the way we will be in contact with you to help you answer any questions that may arise.
How to uninstall the Frugal iD software?
If you no longer want the free ID Theft Protection service offered by Frugal iD, you may uninstall the software at any time.
Click on the Start Menu, the windows icon usually located on the bottom of the page.
Click once on Control Panel, which is located on the right hand side of the Start Menu.
From the Control Panel under Programs select Uninstall a Program (in Windows XP this is called Add or Remove programs).
Locate Frugal iD in the list of installed applications. Click once on the name of the program and then click on Remove or Uninstall. This will start the Uninstall Wizard. When the uninstall wizard is finished, restart your computer to complete the process.
